Is France depopulating?

In a given territory, we talk about depopulation when deaths outnumber births [1]. Is this what is happening in France? The answer depends on which geographical perimeter we choose : metropolitan (continental) France alone; or metropolitan France plus the five overseas departments; or the same again plus overseas territories. What impact does the convergence of the number of deaths and births, and more importantly still, the intersection of the two, have on the age pyramid? Already rectangular rather than pyramidal, could it become oval?
